We are absolutely delighted to announce that one of our projects has been shortlisted for the ‘Best ICF Home’ in the Build It Magazine Awards 2021. For 10 years the Build It Awards have been the most coveted accolade in the self-build industry.
Home’s Design Features:
Inside and out, the Milngavie project boasts a striking, contemporary aesthetic, with the innovative design features to boot!
To achieve the client and the project design teams goals the site had to be excavated 4 metres below road level to ensure the existing road and the new driveway access levels were not only regulation-compliant but whilst not disturbing the exciting road structure that had previously been partially retained by the site and its natural ground levels.
The home was built to low-energy standards whilst implementing some Passivhaus principles. This means it can enjoy the benefits of Passivhaus building, without being certified. A fabric first approach was implemented during construction – reducing the requirement for renewables or alternate energies – ensuring the house was super-insulated and air-tight through the use of ICF.
Other design features:
Air source heat pump – The system extracts warmth from the air outside and shifts it indoors in a concentrated state, helping to provide the homeowner with heating and hot water.
Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) – this acts as a continuous ventilation source that helps to extract moisture-loaded, stale air out of the home and fills it with filtered, fresh air for the occupants, ensuring all-year-round comfort for the user.
Expansive glazing – with Internorm sliding doors that are 3m in height and triple glazed throughout.
Interestingly, the driveway of this house is actually the basement roof.
It really is clear to see why this has been shortlisted for the ‘Best ICF Home’ award.
